different default s folder running / complete 12156r

dinodini » Sat Apr 25, 2015 8:01 am

Hi,

I would like to know if it is possible to configure fdm so that it is using a different folder while the files are ed. Or in other words is there a way to let fdm automatically move completely ed files to a specific folder different from the folder where the files were stored while the was running.

Thx for your help in advance

FDM 3.9 works like FDM 3.8 - you can set or change location of the default folder, create groups and define folder for each group separately, use macros in folder names. It should work automatically for all s using standard "Add " window. It doesn't work when FDM uses different dialog windows, f.e. for flash video or " all" - in such cases FDM shows last used group and folder.

FDM 5 preview currently doesn't use groups or automatization at all. It always tries to use last used folder, but you can still use macros in folder name.

Thx Usher for your answer, but I didn't find a way to configure it the way you describe it.
I would like to tell you my specific requirement:
I would like to get all ed files into one folder (I don't difference the to be used folder by the file type) so I want all files (in my case) to be stored in the root folder of disc f:. While the files are ed I want to them to root folder of disc d:.
So my requirement is, that fdm is ing the files to the d: root folder. But when the file is ed comepletely the file should be moved to root folder of disc f:.

I'm using 3.9.5 build 1537

Perhalps the option name are not absolutely correct cause I use the german translation but I try to tell you the englisch meaning of my used settings:
In the settings option for "New s":
I use the setting "use this group for all new s" set to group "others".
Standard folder I set to d:\
When I now set the default group folder for group "others" to f:\ it automatically switches the default folder also to f:\ ???
So how can I set the default folder to d:\ and the default group folder for group "others" to f:\

Thx in advance
Dino Dini

Actuallly I use the group "others" as standard donload group for all s. The standard folder for this group is set to f:

Well, it seems you have forgotten many FDM features.
Open the main FDM window - you should see the tree of groups in the left pane. Right click the group named "All s", select "Set groups' root folder" from the context menu and set needed folder.
When you finish, folders previously defined for other groups should be also reset to the default folder. Old s will stay at their old places, of course.
Note that:
- For security reasons you should not use the root folder of any partition as a file store.
- Keeping all files in a single folder may remarkably slow down access to that folder.
